Our Philosophy:

D.O.C. strives to create an educational atmosphere approachable to all. A progression of instructional courses is designed to enhance overall river awareness and teach paddling technique through the proven methods of the American Canoe Association. Instructors combine a diverse background of river running experiences and technical training to create an environment that inspires confidence for fun and relaxed learning.

Introductory $65.00 (private $130.00)
Begin your kayak experience with 3 to 4 hours of lake instruction learning the basic elements of the sport. Instructors will focus on equipment and terminology, safety, getting in (and out), basic paddling strokes, wet exits and rescue techniques. Eskimo rolls will be demonstrated, taught and attempted-no guarantees. The lake is a warm, shallow and safe environment for the most apprehensive first-timer. Anyone, age 12 and over, is encouraged to check it out!

Roll Clinics $30.00 (with prior D.O.C. enrollment) $45.00 (without prior enrollment)
A 2 hour lake session devoted solely to technique. Perfect your on-side roll, learn your off-side roll or work on your very first eskimo roll. Previous D.O.C. or other verifiable instruction is strongly recommended

Novice $85.00 (private $170.00)

Students with a 50% successful lake roll, or better, will paddle a class II/III section of the Upper Nenana River. Those with a less successful roll wanting river orientation can choose to paddle an inflatable or sit-on-top kayak and learn river hydrodynamics and maneuvers. Students will set their own pace and learn river dynamics, reading whitewater, recognizing hazards, ferry angels, eddy turns, river rolls and river rescue. This course will enlighten the novice paddler on the true essence of whitewater kayaking.

Full Day Introductory $150

This full-day intensive starts with an Introductory Clinic on Otto Lake in the morning followed by the Novice Class in an inflatable, sit-on-top or possibly a hardshell kayak river trip down the Grassy Knoll section in the afternoon. We will take a break for lunch (not provided) but be prepared for a very long and physical day.

Two Day Introductory Special $275.00
D.O.C. believes the most effective learning begins with a concentrated effort in the whitewater medium. Retain the basic skills of the sport with two days of intensive training. Combines the Full Day Intro with a brief refresher of basic skills and a Roll Clinic on the second morning and a hardshell trip on the Grassy Knoll section on the second afternoon. The beginner will progress from flat water instruction to river excursion without any time-lag to interfere with the learning curve. Give yourself the advantage of immersion and the benefit of reduced cost!

Two Day Intermediate $350.00
Where the fun of kayaking really starts to emerge. Learn advanced paddle strokes, bomb-proof your roll, learn new rolling techniques, and learn how to playboat on the great waves of the Nenana River in this intermediate course. Previous instruction necessary.

Four Day Course $595.00
A great opportunity to truly learn the sport of kayaking in one of the World's most beautiful locations. Combining the Two Day Introductory with the Two Day Intermediate, this four day course gives you the best opportunity to build both the muscle memory, and the mental fortitude, to confidently start kayaking with friends on your own local river. Lunch Included.

Kayak Camp for Teenagers $750.00
The last week of June, 2007 was the Denali Kayak School's first ever weeklong camp for teenage boys and girls. Both the kids and our guides had a great time. So in 2008 we're going to offer two camps: during the last week of June and again during the last week of July. Parents will drop their kids off on Sunday evening and return the following Saturday evening to pick them up. The camp includes meals from breakfast Monday morning to a pizza party lunch on Saturday. Last year meals consisted of cereal, pancake, or bacon and egg breakfasts, and meals ranging from fresh caught King Salmon, to spaghetti and even Pad Thai noodles. Our guides camp with the kids and chaperone them during the evening hours at Otto Lake. We provide all kayak gear, but the kids will need to bring there own camping gear

.

Groups of five or more will be accommodated for any dates with a 7 day advance notice. All reservations should be made at least one week prior to course date. A 50% deposit will be required for all reservations with a full refund available with cancellations made 48 hours prior to course.
